“We go over safety with power tools at the beginning of each week,” said [Grace] Whitmore, “and supervisors also are present when they are being used. I love the program. It’s wonderful to see the kids start the week saying, ‘I can’t do that,’ and by the end of the week, they’re eager to use them.”

“We are helping our community but also providing a home for youths from other communities,” says Alan Cook, Central United [Methodist Church]’s director of family ministries, “so that they can experience God in this community.”

Cook said part of the experience was having young people get to know Stockton and “see the ways our community is rising up to help other people.”
