Paiute and Shoshone Tribes, Fort McDermitt, Nevada
![]() |
SSP has been invited again to work at the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Reservation, where we have served a number of summers during the past 10 years. McDermitt is a small, rural and economically depressed community with virtually no economic base where there continues to be a great need for housing repair assistance. Less than 300 people live in this community.
The Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone reservation is located on Highway 95 five miles |
| Accommodations | Volunteers will be housed at the McDermitt Combined School which has a large gym and bathrooms. |
| Type of Work |
We anticipate a variety of porch, stair, and wheelchair ramp projects as well as painting and repairing roofs. |
| Climate |
Expect highs in the 90's. The elevation in McDermitt is 4,300 feet. |
| Directions | To get to McDermitt, consult Google maps or a similar mapping service to find the best route for your group.
The McDermitt Combined School is located off of Highway 95; from the highway take Stateline Road east and the school will be one block on the right. Fun fact, the gym is partially located in Nevada and Oregon. |
