We are so proud to have these three compelling youth voices on SSP’s Board and Youth Advisory Council in the 2022-2023 program year. Get to know each of them below, and read what they had to share in our 2022 Annual Newsletter:
Emma Factora, 11th grader from Burbank United Methodist Church, CA:
“I will forever appreciate the inclusivity of SSP regarding faith and the openness and patience of the staff to all volunteers.”
“I will forever appreciate the inclusivity of SSP.”
Pravin Rajah, 11th grader from Stockton, CA:
“I’ve truly enjoyed volunteering with SSP’s Tool Library for the past couple of months and going to the summer program in San Diego, and I want to continue to be an active part of SSP and contribute. SSP taught me to become independent and a hard worker.”
“SSP taught me to become independent and a hard worker.”
Alex Santiago, 12th grader from Claremont United Church of Christ, CA:
“As a member of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), I aim to help other youth realize the ways they can take larger action for injustice through SSP. The lengths SSP went to incorporate diversity and equity was an integral part of my experience last summer, and I would like to help continue this mission as a YAC member.
I am excited to connect with other BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color) youth and encourage them to use their voice and assure them that their voice matters! I’d like to demonstrate and teach other youth all SSP has to offer, from strengthening your faith to promoting equity to serving others.”
“I am excited to connect with other BIPOC youth . . . and assure them that their voice matters!“
Editor’s Note: These three wonderful youth board members also serve on SSP’s Youth Advisory Council, acting as a bridge between youth voices and adult leaders. Each of them started their service with SSP in different ways! From several summers of volunteer service with a group, to volunteering at SSP’s Tool Library as an individual, there are many ways to connect with the SSP community and grow in leadership. Contact us to learn how you can grow as a leader in the community!
