A Sierra Service Project — in Central America
“Our group’s project was building a new classroom at a school in El Triunfo. Typically, our day began with our waking up at six. After having breakfast, getting ready, we would arrive at the school around 7:30 and work until four. We started at level zero, building the foundation of the school, but we did not just show up and build a school for these people. People from the community came every day and worked with us. We showed them what we knew and they showed us what they knew, and together we built the school. By the end of the trip, we had not only built a new classroom but new relationships with the people of El Triunfo.”
