Creating Sustainable Change

In 2006, my staff journey with SSP began. I had participated as a youth the 5 previous summers, but it was that 2006 theme that stuck with me: “Radical Acceptance, Unconditional Love, Amazing Grace.” These six words have resonated with me every day since.
Reflecting on my time as a volunteer and later as a staff member, I remember the profound sense of acceptance I felt and then strived to show others. Feeling accepted empowered me to make a difference in the world around me, knowing my actions could create change.

Since my time on staff, I have wanted to support SSP in continuing to create an environment where others could experience the same love and acceptance — where everyone is safe to be themselves. In our SSP communities, we strive to embody God’s acceptance, love, and grace.
Now, as the Executive Director of a nonprofit, I recognize the vital role of individual donations—especially monthly contributions. Predictable income is a challenge in the nonprofit world, but monthly donations can make a significant impact. They allow us to plan for the future and ensure the sustainability of our mission.

When applying for grants, one crucial question often arises: “Is this project sustainable beyond the funding period?” With the support of monthly donors, I hope SSP can confidently answer ‘yes’ to that question.
My life was transformed by SSP, and I am committed to giving back, empowering youth, uplifting marginalized communities, and creating sustainable change.
Editor’s Note: SSP’s development of young leaders—and their capacity to build community—is made possible by gifts from donors like Meghan. If these stories inspire you, consider making a one-time gift or sign up to become a monthly donor!
